White Rose Glory Holes

The White Rose Development is located offshore Newfoundland, East Coast Canada. The Oil Field will be developed using subsea wells tied back by flexible flowlines to a FPSO facility.

For the protection of the subsea wellhead facilities against passing icebergs, dredging of 9 meters deep depressions into the seabed, named “Glory Holes”, is to be excavated at each drill center at 125 meters water depth.

Instead of dragging with a suction drag head, a huge new Grab Dredging System is specially developed for this project. The system consists of an A-frame and a Grab system, which is a combination of a Clamshell Bucket (16 m³ or 10 m³) and a ROV.

The scope of work includes the dredging of two Glory Holes (Southern and Northern) in the White Rose Development. The total amount of material removed was:

  • Southern Glory Hole: 55.000 m3
  • Northern Glory Hole: 20.000 m3
