ESB / Shannon Estuary Pipeline Crossing

In 1977 twin pipelines were laid across the estuary of the River Shannon from Tarbert Generating Station in County Kerry to Prospect in County Clare. After installation, both pipelines were protected by a rock/gravel berm but inspection surveys revealed significant pipe exposure and some spanning. Tideway’s scope of work included the reinstatement of the rock/gravel berm along the pipelines. Dumping operations were carried out by Contractor’s D.P. Side Stone Dumping Vessel "Pompeï" and were executed by shovelling a deck load consisting of crushed rock, over the side of the vessel.

Following works have been completed by SSDV "Pompeï":

  • Installation of Filter rock berm between KP 0.123 and KP 1.825 (Filter materials 40 – 100 mm.)
  • Installation of Armour rock berm between KP 0.130 and 1.812 (Armour materials 60 – 300 kg)

The total amount of Filter rock used for the installation of the rock berm is 33,580 tonnes. The total amount of Armour rock used is 50,475 tonnes.
