Bombax Pipeline Landfall Project
The Bombax Pipeline Project is located off the East Coast of Trinidad. The project comprises a 62.6 km 48" gas pipeline originating at an offshore platform, delivering natural gas product to an existing onshore facility.
The scope of work included dredging and backfilling works, survey activities and landfall pulling, using linear winches whereby the pipelay vessel was stationed at approx. 2.7 km offshore from the landfall, while the pipe was being pulled off the vessel towards shore.
The main activities for the project included:
- Trench Dredging Operations:
Utilising a large Cutter Suction Dredger a total amount of 325,000 m³ was dredged and side cast in the designated underwater storage area - Landfall Construction:
A total amount of 4,000 m³ rock material was used to construct a causeway of approximaT +100 m in length. Armour rock was hereby used to protect the causeway against currents and wave action, smaller infill rock material was used to make the core of the dam - Installation of Pull Wire:
The dynamically positioned vessel ‘Tideway Rollingstone’ picked up the messenger wire from the shore and installed the double 102mm diameter pull-in wires (2,700m long) in the pre-dredged trench - Pipe Pulling Operations
Using two 500 tonnes linear winches the 48” pipeline was pulled ashore - Trench Backfilling
The backfilling of the offshore trench was completed using a small Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger
